Peace Out, February

I'm not sad that February 09 is over. Between the extreme temperature fluctuations (we still had a trace of SNOW in my bushes Wednesday and my oldest daughter is wearing shorts and a t-shirt to school today, a mere 2 days later), the colds, a death in the family, the stomach viruses, and a back injury, I'm glad it's gone. SEE YA.

No offense to all the February fans out there, but this one has been ANNOYING.

So today I'm declaring that March is my favorite month. Except for this coming Sunday when our clocks will get set forward an hour meaning that my kids will go to bed when it's still daylight outside. And I will lose an hour of sleep. And I tend to frown upon sleep loss. Call me crazy.

My neighbor and I were discussing "daylight savings time" yesterday. It just seems weird that people can manipulate time like that. And it's even more bizarre that some cities & states like Hawaii, parts of Indiana, & Arizona (excluding the Navajo Nation) choose NOT to participate in it. How can you choose NOT to participate in time? Tait and Camille have their "bewitching hour" at about 5:30 every night. Can I just declare that 5:30 doesn't exist anymore?

So here's my question. Since Daylight Savings Time's beginning in the early 1900's, and considering all the observances of it since then, and counting all the people who choose NOT to observe it, WHAT TIME IS IT REALLY? For all you know, it really might be tomorrow.

Whoa.

Think about it.

:)

you're so funny Robyn! I don't like it to start b/c I so tired. But once we adjust I like the extra daylight. Not looking forward to my kids switching over =(

But yeah, good question. Can i just choose NOT to participate? Gov't already dictating a lot these days...

I was just thinking about this as I was coming home from California. We were connecting in Arizona and trying to determine if they were "on" with the time thing, or "off". And what does that mean, really?

We were watching Idol over there, too, and I was thinking, "if it comes on at 8:00 in Florida, does it come on at 5:00 here?" But no, the "live" show doesn't come on until 8:00 their time. It's all so confusing.

At least I don't have to deal with convincing my kids that it's bedtime with the sun streaming through their windows - a definite perk of the empty nest!

Love you!

Robyn -- you made my head hurt! And now I don't have a clue what time it is!
This is such a funny post and I just can't stand the whole lose an hour of sleep thing. But I do love the gain and hour of sleep thing. I think I'll just do that this week!

When you know you've been watching too much LOST...

I love daylight savings time. I wait my whole life for it to be light outside until 8:00PM. (: This is of course after I get over losing an hour of sleep. Because sleep and me? We're in love. While we're choosing what to participate in, I think we should just all sign a petition or something to have the switch made at NOON. Who's with me?

I'm not usually a fan of the losing an hour of sleep....however, this year I am on call at the hospital which translates into 23 hours on the OB unit and not 24. I love it this year.

Oh yea, and I love the longer daylight. We should keep that in place year round!

Ok..once I get over the lack of sleep...I LOVE IT. I love the extra daylight at the end of the day...my boys are older so it doesn't mess with them like it did when they were younger.

And..for real...who started this mess and why is it an option? And...I have no clue what time it is, what day it is, and what I'm supposed to get at Kroger.

roby- you're such a great writer. How'd the switch go for you last night? We're still recovering. I'm liking 'Dub's post about switching at Noon. She's a smart girl, that Scrappy.

Yes I too am ready for MArch to be here but I really want the warmer weather - AHH
the sun on my face feels so nice!
I agree with Fran - once I get over the time change I love the "longer" days - makes for some fun evenings :)
Love you
Kim

I remember when my daughter was young and trying to convince here that daylight did not dictate when she went to bed..time did.

I would get in bed with her and we would talk and I would sing and she would finally go to sleep.

Even though she's nineteen I still crawl into bed with her and talk about all things important in her life.

Love her so!

Great question...does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care...about time?

Blessings!
